Book Cover
This project examines a rarely discussed yet conceptually rich subject: contemporary funerary urns. As part of an assignment to choose an industrial designer and create a book cover around their work, I became interested in how designers today are reimagining this object—and how those reinterpretations shape our understanding of memory, grief, and meaning.
The final cover is quiet and minimal, intended to evoke calm and respect. I used soft ash tones, a subtle grainy texture, and a photograph of a white urn that almost dissolves into the background. The urn is open, suggesting transparency and dialogue, and challenging the traditional notion of urns as sealed and private.
To introduce a subtle narrative layer and hint at the book’s content, I added a typology of modern urns along the spine—a small detail for readers browsing on a shelf.
